California Becomes the Latest State to Require Textured Hair Education

California State Law now Requires Cosmetology Schools to Teach Textured Hair Education On September 23, 2024, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill into law requiring the inclusion of textured hair education in the state’s cosmetology licensing requirements and curriculums. California is the fifth state to do so following Louisiana, New York, Minnesota and Connecticut. This is a notable achievement given California is home to approximately 200 cosmetology schools, the highest number of any state in the United States.   The bill was championed by California Assemblywoman Dr. Akilah Weber and the Texture Education Collective (TEC); an alliance of professional hair (more…)
