This is Guy Tang’s version of grunge…and of course, it’s still gorgeous and totally polished! For this look, he uses his #mydentity @guy_tang Dual Boosters, which can be used with or without developer and blur seamlessly with permanent or demi-permanent color.

STEPS

Natural Level: 8 ½

Apply Formula A to the roots, about 1 inch out, to blur out the regrowth. “We want a grungy feel, so I’m not trying to make it look natural,” Guy says. “Because I want drama and to exaggerate that grungy look, I went with the full tube of Dark Shadows.”
Pro Tip: Though he used permanent haircolor, Guy mixed it with 6-volume developer, usually meant for demi-permanent color. Permanent hair color has ammonia which can lift and break the base of the hair. Dark Shadows has less ammonia than the other permanent colors in #mydentity. Mixing with a lower developer gives a more subtle shift, only half a level at the base.

Starting at the back, apply Formula B to the mids, blurring down. In some areas, you can use Formula B to the ends, and in other sections, use Formulas C, D, E and F on the ends.
