A shadow root is everything these days, and when the shadow root is part of a steely gray color design, with a killer undercut no less, it’s the perfect storm. STEPS
Section the hair along the parietal ridge, dropping below the crown in the back.
Scissor-over-comb horizontally underneath the parietal ridge from side to side.
Switch to clipper-over-comb vertically to perfect the tapering.
Divide hair above the parietal ridge into four sections, at the top of the head, with the area just above the ear as the axis point.
Note: The front sections should be larger than the back sections.
Divide each quadrant into 1-inch, pie-shaped sections.
Lift each pie section straight up and point-cut from short to long. Use a traveling guide to cut all four sections.
Apply tape from the left corner of the nape to 1 inch above the right ear. Etch a strong line above the tape with a clipper.
Optional: Lay tape on the opposite side for a symmetrical result.
Continue with a freehand clipper cut, maintaining a strong line to the front.
Optional: Lay tape on the opposite side for a symmetrical result.
Apply L’ANZA Keratin Healing Oil Hair Treatment, dry the hair with a cushion brush, comb to natural fall and freehand-cut the design line.
Apply Formula A to the first 1 inch of regrowth, as well as the shortest area of the design on the sides and back of the head.
Use a clean brush to help blur the color.
Apply color with a comb on the cropped sides.
Apply Formula B through the ends using a L’ANZA Color Board for control.
Starting in the front, take 1-inch squares, and divide them in half. Overlay Formula A on Formula B on the midlengths and ends.
Merge the 1-inch square by twisting the two sections together. Continue through the remaining hair in this manner. Process at room temperature for 20 minutes. Rinse, cleanse and condition with L’ANZA Healing ColorCare Shampoo and Conditioner.
