7 Fresh Haircut Ideas for Spring/Summer 2025

Although the heat’s rising as we head into summer, the lengths are getting shorter and more mangable. Scroll through BTC editors’ picks of top haircut trends for spring/summer 2025, guided by your favorite hairstylist influencers and celebrity stylists.

What’s on the radar? Baby bangs, mini bobs, seamless layers and our classic bixie under the guise of the “Artichoke” cut.

1. Long, Seamless Layers

Soft, seamless layers are having a major moment, which salon owner and BTC team member Mick Lewis (@hairbymickk) attributes to a deep shift in client goals:

Layers, layers, layers. Since the color is no longer screaming, I believe the haircuts are going to be doing much of the talking. People are going to be loving shorter layers around their face, different lengths of fringe and will stop holding onto the length.”

For a fresh change, suggest shorter face-framing fringe to your client’s typical layered haircut:

Celebrity stylist Laura Polko (@laurapolko) adds, “Expect to see a lot of long layers styled with bouncy blowouts. The bouncy look is in—it’s fun, voluminous and gives a fresh, lived-in vibe.” Use volume-boosting products like her Laura Polko Los Angeles Volume collection, and reach for heatless or Velcro rollers to lift the root and build body without damage.

To nail your layered haircuts, follow Sabrina Carpenter’s longtime stylist Laurie Heaps (@_hairbylaurie) trick: “For long layers, overdirect sections for added movement and volume.” The result is hair that floats, flips and flows—never weighed down.

2. The “Artichoke” Cut

“The “artichoke” cut is going to be a huge hit in 2025,” celebrity stylist and Moroccanoil® Global Ambassador Dimitris Giannetos (@dimitrishair) shares. “It’s inspired by the layered and textured look of an artichoke, requiring strategic cutting to create wispy, choppy layers with volume and movement.”

P.S., don’t be surprised if your clients request a bixie for this trend, as the length lies somewhere between an elongated pixie and a bob.

The Artichoke Styling & Maintenance Guide:

  • “To style it, I’d recommend applying a lightweight mousse or texturizing spray, like Moroccanoil Volumizing Mousse and Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray, to damp hair for volume and definition,” Dimitris shares.
  • Rough-dry with your fingers or a diffuser for a natural textured finish.
  • “Maintain the look with regular trims every four to six weeks to keep the layers fresh,” he adds.
  • “Use a leave-in conditioner, like Moroccanoil Leave-in Conditioner, to make sure the ends stay soft and healthy.”

3. Medium-Length Wolf Cut

This year’s evolution of the wolf cut is all about approachable layers for mid-length hair. Dubbed “Sunset Layers” by Ulta Beauty, the look is a cocktail of shag, butterfly and wolf cut DNA. “Whatever you want to call it, it’s for the medium-length girlies,” ARC™ Scissors Artistic Team Member Justin Toves-Vincilione (@ahappyjustin) predicts.

To style, finish with Authentic Beauty Concept Shaping Cream: “This will marry sections together, eliminate frizz and add shine and definition,” Justin shares.

4. The Layered Cowgirl Bob

“The cowgirl bob, like the one I did on Megan Fox, will be a look people try in 2025,” Dimitris spills. “It’s a chic, modern take on the classic bob with a bit of a tousled, western vibe.” The look starts with a blunt cut at the jawline, then adds subtle face-framing layers for movement and softness.

Styling is key—use a ceramic round brush to blow-dry for volume, then follow with Moroccanoil Dry Texture Spray for effortless, lived-in texture. Dimitris recommends trims every six to eight weeks to keep the silhouette sharp.

5. Snack-Size Bobs

Whether your client comes in asking for a mini bob, a micro bob or French bob, this is the trend they want. Think sharp lines, jaw-grazing length and a bold perimeter.

Key Cutting Points To Know:

  • Apply Authentic Beauty Concept Hydrate Spray Conditioner as a cutting aid and re-saturate sections as needed.
  • Begin the cut at the nape, using a blunt cut to establish the perimeter.
  • At the occipital, begin to graduate your sections using a point cutting technique. For this look, Justin reaches for ARC™ Scissors PARAGON II, a scissor that excels in wet-to-dry cutting.

Below, press play to watch how Justin approaches cutting a short bob while avoiding a bell-shaped look:

6. Baby Bangs

After a huge baby bang resurgence at the 2025 Grammys, we’ve seen celebs like Clairo and Sophie Thatcher dip their toes into this edgy fringe trend. It’s defining feature is a super-short fringe that can be texturized or blunt depending on client preference.

Pro Tip: Try using a texturizing scissor to “sketch” the outline of the fringe versus cutting straight into it, as ARC™ Scissors Ambassador Matt Swinney (@matt.swinney) demonstrates below with the 10/10 Reversible Texturizer. “This process is ultimately creating a very small undercut. This technique allows you to create a softer movement with a fuller, shorter fringe,” Matt shares.

7. 60s & ’80s Mod Cuts

Retro is roaring back, but make it subversive. “’80s underground, mullet-like, 80s-inspired shapes with a modern low-volume, wolfy style focus” are what ARC™ Scissors Artistic Team Member Justin Toves-Vincilione (@ahappyjustin) predicts for the season. These cuts are less about volume and more about shape, movement and attitude.

Think Blondie meets The Runaways—grungy, textured and cool without trying. Pair it with air-dried waves powered by a surf spray, like Hairstory‘s salt-free Undressed.
