Styled either curled or wavy the lived-in lob is here to stay, so we grabbed some quick flat iron styling tips from BTC Team Member and Birch Loft Salon Owner Emily Anderson (@emilyandersonstyling). Scroll down to see Emily’s tips and tricks for creating beautiful, beachy waves with a flat iron.
1. Perfect Prep
To protect the hair and ensure a long-lasting style, use a heat protection spray before you blow dry and do not exceed 350 degrees on the iron.

2. Tension, Tension, Tension
Keep consistent tension on the hair when creating a wave. Make sure the plates of the iron are clamped tight as you travel down the section.
3. All About Wrist Action
Emily suggest bending your wrist back towards you and slowly drag the iron down to achieve beachy waves.
4. Don’t Stress The Underneath
“The underneath layers don’t get curled very much,” Emily explains. There is no need to create complete waves, so Emily suggests rocking the flat iron back and forth instead of in a full rotation.

5. Section Size = Wave Size
- Bigger sections = less wave and less volume
- Smaller sections = more wave and more volume
6. Not Too Fancy Finish
To achieve that lived-in, beachy wave don’t forget to tousle the hair when finished. Emily shares two of her favorite products for a flawless finish: TIGI® Professional Copyright Custom Care™ Smooth Booster and TIGI® Professional Copyright Custom Create™ Colour Lustre Oil.
