While some clients see sweet summertime as the ideal season to go brighter and blonder, others desire more of a dimensional power red. If you have clients in the latter group, then we have just the technique for you: celeb stylist Rick Henry's (@rickhenryla) hybrid color melting/color blocking technique. Keep scrolling to learn step-by-step how he achieved this radiant red haircolor using the new Joico LumiShine Powerhouse Reds collection!
STEPS

Before

Prep the hair with Joico Defy Damage ProSeries 1 Bond-Protecting Color Optimizer, then create four equal sections.

Then, apply Formula A throughout the head in a shadow root method.

Process for 35 minutes, then wash with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo and Conditioner and blow-dry the hair.

Divide the hair on top and on the sides into eight triangular sections, leaving out the area from the occipital bone to the nape.
Note: The width of the triangles should reflect the density and head shape of the client.

Starting at the nape, take a horizontal slice parting and apply Formula B from the roots to the ends.

Continue applying Formula B as you work your way up the section.

Move to the top back triangle section and apply Formula C from roots to ends, working your way up in horizontal slice partings.

Repeat the process with Formula C on the opposite top side triangle section.

Move to the top back center triangle section and repeat the application process with Formula B.

Apply Formula B in the same method on the front side bottom triangle.

Move to the side triangle section directly above the previous section and apply Formula C.

Repeat the process on the side triangle sections on the opposite side of the head.

Apply Formula B to the last triangle section at the top and work in horizontal slice partings from the crown toward the front hairline.

Process for 35 minutes, then rinse and shampoo with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo.

Then, apply Joico Defy Damage ProSeries 2 Bond-Strengthening Color Preserver and let it sit for 5 minutes before rinsing.

For added thermal and UV protection and longer-lasting haircolor, apply Joico Defy Damage Protective Shield, then blow-dry and style as desired.
