Watch This Updo Video Tutorial For Spring Brides
Twice a year, BTC spends a week in New York City, embedded backstage at major fashion shows during New York Fashion Week to get a close-up look at the tools, techniques and hair looks that grace the runways. That’s where we spotted this structured chignon, created by Jon Reyman (@jonreymanhair) for Naeem Khan. Can’t you imagine this sleek look on your spring brides? Keep reading for the video tutorial.
Show Notes: Known for uber-glam, intricately beaded garments, Naeem Khan showed seriously ’70s glamour, with some looks crowned by star-spangled headdresses. The show’s location—a super-futuristic building designed by legendary architect Zaha Hadid—also delivered inspo. As hair key, Jon combined the architectural structure of the building with a look that could stand on its own, but also support the sparkly hair toppers.

Key Products:
- This look requires a smooth blowout from the start. Jon likes to use the Comb Attachment on the Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional Edition to speed through wavy and curly hair (because time is of the utmost importance backstage!).

- The secret to a tight bun is this little doodad the team created for each model. Just string an elastic through two bobby pins for a bungee-type device that will securely hold the hair in place (check out how they used it in the video below!).

- To achieve a shiny, sleek finish, Jon and his team liberally sprayed hairspray through a fine mesh net. Then, they “baked” the product into the air with a Dyson Supersonic™ hair dryer Professional Edition using the Diffuser Attachment and used tension from the mesh net to smooth flyaways.
