Celebrity Hairstylists Predict the 5 Styling Trends for Fall/Winter 2025

From glossy blowouts to snatched updos, the biggest hairstyling trends for fall/winter 2025 are leaning polished and sculpted. This season, we’re seeing more structure, intentionality and effort, and less…effortless, lived-in and piecey.

We gathered insights from some of the industry’s top celebrity hairstylists like Dimitris Giannetos (@dimitrishair) and Laurie Heaps (@_hairbylaurie) to break down the looks—plus, some recommended products to achieve them. Keep reading for the top five styling trends that will carry us through the rest of 2025.

1. Glossy Blowouts

The Glass Hair Trend’s mirror shine is giving way to a bouncier, softer and lower-maintenance blowout this season with the Glossy Blowout Trend. While the Glass Hair Trend focused on super sleek, straight strands, Glossy Blowouts still retain intense shine but come with more volume, body and are a bit more wearable than their predecessor.

Redken Ambassador Laurie Heaps (@_hairbylaurie) said “Glossy blowouts with bounce will be big this season.” The key to the look? Creating lots of movement through the midlengths with a soft bristle round brush like Olivia Garden’s EcoCeramic Soft Bristles 2.5 Inch and using Redken’s Acidic Color Gloss Heat Protectant Leave-In Treatment. The leave-in hydrates, detangles, provides heat protection up to 450 degrees and delivers glossy shine that lasts until your next wash.

2. Flipped-Out Bobs & Lobs

For the last few months of 2025, flipped-out bobs and lobs are back and making waves as the ultimate mix of retro flair and modern polish. With sharp, glossy edges that flip outward, this modern take on the trend channels nostalgic ’60s mod vibes with ’90s playfulness while still feeling totally fresh for today. “When it comes to downstyles, retro nods to the ’90s will be huge, especially flipped bobs,” predicts celebrity hairstylist Suzette Boozer (@hair_sulon).

The key to achieving a flipped-out bob or lob? A blunt cut that has enough weight to hold the flip combined with an ultra-smooth blowout that deliberately turns the ends outward. The crown and midlengths must be sleek and polished using a heat protectant that leaves a glossy finish like Joico Dream Blowout Glass™ and kept in place with a non-sticky, strong hairspray like Moroccanoil® Luminous Hairspray Extra Strong.

Suzette, whose client roster includes the likes of Quinta Brunson, Gwen Stefani, Camila Cabello and Nicole Richie, shares that she’d like to see a full-on ’90s hair revival this season. “I’d love to see more 90s-inspired artistry—it was such a bold, expressive era. Styles then felt complete; they told a story. Think: Grace Jones, TLC, the Spice Girls, even the energy of ’90s rappers—there was always color, texture and strong shapes. I’d love to see that level of creativity and editorial strength repeat itself, just reimagined for today.”

3. Polished Ponytails

After years of trending texturized ponytails adorned with ribbons and piecey, undone faceframes, L’Oréal Paris Ambassador Dimitris Giannetos (@dimitrishair) says glossy, polished ponytails with sharp lines and sleek base sections will be what’s trending this season. “I’d love to see more architectural hair…Hair is an accessory to fashion, not just an afterthought,” he says.

The key to achieving a polished pony is to lay the edges, roots and base flat with a gel like Redken Max Sculpting Gel making sure to eliminate all loose flyaways and frizz. Then, the pony often flows long and full with controlled volume, texture and movement (key word being controlled) to balance out the sleek top. If there are faceframing pieces, they’re sleek and defined.

4. Sculpted Updos

From the New York Fashion Week runways to bridal looks, polished updos are being reimagined with sculptural precision. So much so that Laurie, Suzette, Dimitris and celebrity hairstylist and Co-Founder of Arove Beauty, Michael Dueñas (@michaelduenas) all agree that sleek, sculptural buns and updos will be trending the rest of the year. “For up styles, we are seeing a lot of polished, sleek buns, voluminous chignons and cultural editorial-style knots,” claims Michael.

The key to achieving a sleek, sculpted updo is to prep and smooth the hair—for fine hair, add grip with a texture spray like Paul Mitchell Texturizing Spray; for thick or textured hair, smooth it with an anti-frizz treatment like amika Frizz-Me-Not Hydrating Treatment. Then, section with precision and control, and finally tightly secure the base of the updo with elastics or pins for long-lasting hold.

You can also expect to see the tousled topknot trending—a take on the Pam Anderson updo. It keeps the sculpted silhouette but adds airy movement, with an emphasis on piecey, lived-in texture for a modern, wearable edge.

5. Cascading Waves

Right now, we’re hitting pause on loose, undone beach waves with straight ends and instead embracing body and uniform shape from root to end. This season’s cascading waves are the intersection of bouncy blowouts and Old Hollywood waves, but not quite Kim Kardashian’s 2014 curls (you know the look). The bends are defined yet soft and casual for a more elevated look that says “I put effort into getting ready.”

In addition to prepping the hair and blow-drying with direction, the key to achieving these uniform waves is to choose the right tool. A 1-inch to 1.5-inch curling iron, like the ghd Curve® Curling Iron, is the sweet spot for cascading waves as these sizes create waves that are large enough for flow and movement but small enough for lasting shape.

Pro Tip: Wrap with consistency. Wrap medium-sized sections around the barrel, keeping all curls in the same direction (away from the face) for a unified wave. And keep in mind, tight wraps hold structure while looser wraps give that cascading drop.
