Want some quick prepping tips? We got a few from @theconfessionsofahairstylist and we’re thinking you might want to take some notes! Here’s what Jenny Strebe does before tackling a pretty upstyle.
The proper way to prep…
- Prep work for upstyling depends on the client’s hair texture and density.
- In the video below, @theconfessionsofahairstylist creates a basic wrap curl to prep the hair before creating an upstyle. Here’s what she does:
1. When starting out, apply something that will give the hair a gritty texture for support and hold. Try a salt spray, mousse or the Kenra Professional Texturizing Mist 6.
2. Then, blow the hair dry with a large round brush at the base for additional volume. At this point, feel the texture of the hair, if you think it will hold a curl, continue on. If you think it needs more product, add more!
3. When the texture is right, start at the nape of the neck and with a 1-inch iron wrap the hair around the rod, holding it for a few seconds before releasing.
4. Complete this curling technique throughout the head—once the texture and curl are there, you’re set to style a pretty updo!
