Have Questions? Sarayah Has Answers!

One of the benefits of watching a course on BTC University? Artists are able to answer your questions in REAL TIME! Here are some technical questions viewers had for Sarayah during her livestream:

Question: What kind of client would benefit from an open air hair painting technique?

Answer: “Open air painting is not going to be for all your clients,” she shared. “It’s going to be for the client that doesn’t mind warmth, that are OK with transition zones and want to see that gradient within their color. That is what creates that multi-dimensional flow and if it just goes from dark to light, it takes away from that sun-kissed beachy vibe we want to create.”

Q: Why do you only paint the surface of your sections?

A: “Surface painting is the key to low-maintenance balayage and dimensional hair,” Sarayah explained And she didn’t stop there: “If you aren’t surface painting you will lose all of your depth. So I place all of my lightener on the top of the section and leave the underneath clean to create all of my depth.”

Then, she dropped this BOMB TIP: “Think of it this way: Take a white piece of paper and place it on another piece of white paper and it looks OK. But take that same piece of white paper and place it on top of a black piece of paper and it looks brighter and whiter! That’s what you have to think of when surface painting.”
