TIGI Catwalk products took a starring role backstage at top fashion shows for Mercedez Benz Fashion A/W 2011 Week in New York City. Three major hair trends emerged from those shows—Downtown Chic, Youthful Braids and ‘70s Volume—and here, the TIGI Creative Team demonstrates, in detail, how to create each look.

STEPS

Hair: Kevin Ryan and the TIGI Creative Team
Inspiration: Cool, effortless, downtown-chic
From the Designer:
“This collection is the essence of a New York woman,” says the designer Richard Chai. “I was inspired by my menswear collection. I wanted a menswear look to be believable in a womenswear line”.From the Stylist:
“Richie’s girls are naturally cool and effortlessly chic,” explains Kevin Ryan. “We’re just enhancing their natural looks. This is the girl that doesn’t have to try to look cool. This is what her hair looks like when she gets out of bed. The hair is imperfect but really beautiful; this girl can walk out the door knowing exactly who she is.Get the Look:
1. Start by blow drying the hair and running your fingers through the ends to create a dry, natural and unpolished texture.2. After parting hair in the middle, use Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost to create sexy volume at the crown.
3. Spritz the hair with Catwalk Session Series Transforming Dry Shampoo, focusing on the ends to add additional texture.
4. On straight hair, use a Nalu Waver by Rsession Tools to create a natural-looking wave.
5. Finish with Catwalk Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hairspray to keep the look in place.”

Hair: Maria Kovacs, Marco Iafrate and the TIGI Creative Team
Inspiration: Strong, sexy, young women. Sexy for herself, and not for her boyfriend. Ideas taken from the past but made new and fresh.
From the Designers:
“We want people to appreciate the details and fabrics, and we wanted the hair to complement this,” say Maayan and Nikki, the line’s designers. “We chose these girls because of their characters and personality. We wanted the girl to look like they just rolled out of bed and put some lipstick on.”Get the Look:
1. Start by adding Catwalk Your Highness Thickening Gel Crème from root to tip to create extra texture, so the hair looks a day or two old.2. Use Catwalk Your Highness Root Boost at the roots and over the entire head to dirty the hair up, then finger dry the hair to lock in the volume and make it not too polished. When you use a brush you can really lose the charm.
3. Next, create a side part with a heavy sweeping fringe from right to left, parallel to the far end of the eyebrow. Separate hair into two large sections, top and bottom.
4. Twist the top section into the shape of a “half-moon” and spray both sections generously with Catwalk Sleek Mystique Look Lock Hairspray.
5. Back-comb each section and spray again, then flat iron the ends to make the hair appear wispy—like she just stepped out the ocean.
6. With the bottom section, create a ponytail and twist it into a messy chignon towards the right side of the head. Fasten with hair pins.
7. Back comb and tease the top section and brush it to create smoothness. Connect the two sections to create the illusion of a faux bob.
