Justin went live on BTC’s Facebook (straight from the dpHUE house!) to show his process for breaking the base and creating babylights on a former bleach-and-tone client. 1. When you’re creating highlights, foils process at different rates. As you pull out each foil, apply Olaplex No. 2 directly on the hair to stop the bleaching process while you wait for the other foils to catch up.
2. As you pull the foils out at the bowl, quickly pull the lightener through the ends with your fingers. Then, apply Olaplex No.2 and rinse to give the ends a color refresher without damage.
3. At the bowl, paint lightener on the hairline (for clients Level 7 and higher!) and process for 5 minutes. Justin uses Redken’s Up To 7 De-Dusted Lightener + 40-volume developer to create this face-framing burst of blonde.
4. Breaking the base on bleach-and-tone blondes will help soften the root color for a more dimensional, high-contrast look. It will also help eliminate harsh lines and outgrowth in between appointments. Justin also recommends his blonde clients use dpHUE’s ACV Hair Rinse to wash their hair without stripping the color for long-lasting, cool hues.
