Want To Increase Client Retention? Do These 4 Things To Keep Clients Coming Back

When a client sits in your chair, it isn’t just about the hair for them. Many guests are looking to take a break from everyday stress, to have a relaxing experience and truly feel taken care of by their stylist. Keep reading to get four tips to increasing client retention—while building your ticket with services they can’t get anywhere else.

1. Dry scalp? Do this before you wash

If your clients are leaving winter with dead skin buildup, try this: Use a soft bristle brush and work in small sections around the head using a circular motion to remove dead skin. Press play or click here to see this technique in action.

This treatment is quick, fast and helps remove all the buildup of dead skin. [It] treats the dry skin at the same time leaving [clients] with a healthy scalp,” says Denver-based stylist Katie Brenner (@ktbhair).

Katie will follow this technique with a clarifying shampoo; then, Saphira Hair’s Mineral Moisturizing Shampoo to further reduce itching, redness and dandruff. Check out the results below:

2. Offer a complimentary scalp massage with your client’s hair mask

Often, our clients aren’t visiting the salon just for beautiful hair, but also to treat themselves to some much-needed self care.

BTC Team Member Sara Botsford (@sarabotsfordhair) loves to elevate her client’s experience in ways that seem small, but make the biggest difference in client retention. “Make them come back for the way they felt in your chair, the enjoyable conversations, the relaxing or vibrant atmosphere,” Sara says. “Make them come back for feeling heard and respected.”

“Make them come back because they know you took time to treat them! One of my favorite ways to make my clients feel special is to offer a hair treatment and scalp massage,” she says. Sara’s favorite? Saphira Hair’s Mineral+ Mud Mask with Glacial Clay Technology. Here’s why:

  • Formulated with 26 concentrated minerals
  • Deeply nourishes and moisturizes dry, damaged hair
  • Balances pH levels of the hair and scalp
  • Features glacial clay minerals to draw moisture from deep inner tissues to hydrate the surface of the scalp, creating more vibrant and healthy hair

4. Set the hair on a velcro roller to cool. “You may continue setting the rest of the hair on rollers or just let it cool on the round brush,” says Sara.
