- 2Step 2 of 10

Create a teardrop section from the front hair line to the occipital bone.
- 3Step 3 of 10

In front of the ears, leave a 1-inch section along the hairline out of the teardrop section.
- 4Step 4 of 10

Behind the ears, leave out all of the hair below the occipital bone.
- 5Step 5 of 10

Starting at the nape, take 1-inch horizontal sections and apply Formula A at the base. Then, apply Formula B through the mids and ends and blend the two shades together. Continue this pattern all the way up to the teardrop section.
- 6Step 6 of 10

At the back of the teardrop section take a 1/4-inch slice. Apply Formula C at the base and blend down to Formula A applied at the mids. Apply Formula C at the ends and blend the shades together.
- 7Step 7 of 10

Take another 1/4-inch slice, leaving no hair out in between and apply Formula C at the base. Then, apply Formula D to the mids and ends and blend the two shades together.
- 8Step 8 of 10

Continue taking 1/4-inch slices throughout the teardrop section, alternating Steps 5 and 6. The last slice of the section, at the hairline, should be the following pattern: Formula C, Formula A, Formula C.
- 9Step 9 of 10

At the hairline (left out of the teardrop section), apply Formula C at the base. Then, apply Formula D through the mids and ends and blend the two shades together. Process, rinse and style as desired.
