Prep with Joico Defy Damage ProSeries 1. Shake the can vigorously and then spray in short bursts to 2-inch sections and comb for even distribution. Make sure to spray away from the face for client comfort.

Pro Tip: Joico Defy Damage Pro Series 1 works right away creating immediate shine and softness. ProSeries 1 is an easy one-step spray that requires no developer, mixing, or timing changes. This step will boost lift and create a more even lift, a greater and more even color deposit, as well as make the hair five times stronger while providing eighty percent less breakage.

  3. 3Step 3 of 15
    DAPL-Step 3

Apply Formula A to the regrowth throughout the entire head.

  4. 4Step 4 of 15
    DAPL-Step 4

When applying color at the front, make sure you take diagonal-back partings so that all the sections stay nice and clean and away from the face.

  5. 5Step 5 of 15
    DAPL-Step 5

Section a triangle out from the fringe. Take a horseshoe section out from the arch of the brows that extends below the crown in the back.

  6. 6Step 6 of 15
    DAPL-Step 6

Working on one side of the fringe at a diagonal, take weave partings and apply Formula C starting below Formula A and through the ends.

  7. 7Step 7 of 15
    DAPL-Step 7

Continue working with weave partings, adding babylights. The amount you add should be based on client consultation, hair type and density, and the fringe length. Adding too many babylights on a short fringe will create spots or banding.

  8. 8Step 8 of 15
    DAPL-Step 8

Working with a fine weave parting that starts at the ear and extends to the horseshoe parting, apply Formula C from regrowth through the ends. Don’t overlap the two formulas.

  9. 9Step 9 of 15
    DAPL-Step 9

Continue taking diagonal-back weave highlights working off the horseshoe section.

  10. 10Step 10 of 15
    DAPL-Step 10

    Repeat on the other side.

  11. 11Step 11 of 15
    DAPL-Step 11

Apply Formula B to the rest of the hair, melting it into the base.

  12. 12Step 12 of 15

Process for 35 minutes. Rinse and shampoo with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo.

  13. 13Step 13 of 15
    DAPL-Step 13

Apply Formula E in a teardrop method and Formula D through the midlengths and ends.

  14. 14Step 14 of 15
    DAPL-Step 14

Process for 5 to 15 minutes. Rinse and shampoo with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo. Apply Joico Defy Damage ProSeries 2 on damp hair and process for 5 minutes. Rinse and style as desired.
