Justin uses this sectioning pattern when applying bleach to keep things neat. He takes a top Mohawk section, then a section on either side of the head just past the ears. Finally, he splits the back section in half for a total of five sections.

Mix Formula A. Justin prefers the consistency of yogurt for lightener because it doesn't dry out while he works.
Pro Tip: Justin uses 40-volume developer and ups the amount of Olaplex No.1 in his lightener formula. "I find that using 20-volume developer and leaving it on the hair for an hour really dries the hair out," he says. The higher dose of Olaplex protects the hair, but the 40-volume developer means hair processes quickly, so only do this if you know you can work quickly through the head.

Apply Formula A as a root touch-up.
- 7Step 7 of 19

Don't apply Formula A on the line of demarcation yet—Justin uses cotton strips to prevent lightener from slipping onto that line, plus the cotton keeps things neat. Leave out the baby hairs at the hairline.

Apply a cap and process under heat for 5 minutes, then without heat for 5 minutes.
- 10Step 10 of 19

Remove the cotton strips, then hit the line of demarcation with Formula A. Let process for 5 minutes.
- 11Step 11 of 19

At the bowl, apply Formula A to the baby hairs at the front.

Rinse the hair, then scrub the Malibu C Malibu Blondes Wellness Treatment through the ends. Justin does this to make the ends brighter without using more lightener. Wash with dpHUE ACV Hair Rinse. It contains vinegar, so it's good to use after a chemical process to cool the scalp.

At this point, you should have a banana-yellow hue.
- 14Step 14 of 19

Apply Formula B from the mids to ends, leaving the roots out (which will be shadowed later). Leave on for at least 5 minutes. Justin leaves it on a bit longer on some of the more yellow spots.
- 15Step 15 of 19

Back at the chair, apply the shadow root. Use Formula C, then switch to Formula D at the hairline. Justin applies it as a root touch-up, then combs it down with a fine-tooth comb to achieve a melt. Process and rinse, then style as desired.
