- 1Step 1 of 15
Prelighten base with Formula A for 25 minutes, then shampoo.
- 2Step 2 of 15
Apply Formula B for 30 minutes, then shampoo and blow-dry hair.
- 3Step 3 of 15
Section off hair, making sure each section has enough hair to completely cover both the front and back side of the GL Apps attachment tab.
- 4Step 4 of 15
Take a section and flat iron the hair to achieve controlled, precise placement.
- 5Step 5 of 15
Beginning in the middle of the section, remove the film covering the adhesive tab on one side of the GL App, then press the GL App into the client’s hair at its natural fall, about ¼ inch from the scalp. Do not pull the hair into the attachment from a section wider than the width of the App.
- 6Step 6 of 15
Working from the center to the ear on each side, repeat the previous step to complete the first row.
- 7Step 7 of 15
Take the next horizontal section of hair and flat iron. Create subsections of hair, one for each GL App below, and pin up with clips.
- 8Step 8 of 15
Remove the film covering one GL App adhesive tab. Unclip the section directly above it and align the veil of hair over the adhesive tab. Rub the veil of hair down onto the adhesive tab and continue with the remaining GL Apps.
- 9Step 9 of 15
Once each App is properly attached, lift the entire attachment section and clip up. Place a Safety Band on the underside of the attachment to protect each GL App from heat and natural oils of the scalp.
- 10Step 10 of 15
When the GL App and Safety Band are both properly placed, use the GL App Connecting Tool to apply pressure evenly across the GL App attachment, squeezing three to four times. Continue the process over the entire head.
- 11Step 11 of 15
To seamlessly blend the lengths between the GL App sections and the client’s natural hair layers, use soft cutting techniques. Nanci uses a razor to softly blend the length of the Apps across the back of the head.
- 12Step 12 of 15
For the sides of the head, Nanci used a straight shear to side-blend from Lo’s natural length all the way down the App.
- 13Step 13 of 15
Then, Nanci used her shear at an angle to cut notches into the side lengths for further blending.
- 14Step 14 of 15
Finish the look by curling with a 1-1/2 inch iron.

Vivid colors look so cool, but sometimes they just aren’t enough! Without that extra “oomph,” the color can fall a little flat. That’s why we LOVE this look by Nanci Lee @nancileehair, a stylist at B2V Salon in West Hollywood and a National Educator for Great Lengths USA. Nanci’s client Lo was rocking a bright purple, but needed some help with her roots and volume. Nanci used the Great Lengths Apps, a tape-in system, to pump up Lo’s look while keeping it easy to maintain. GL Apps last four to six weeks and can be reused three times! For (more…)
