- 2Step 2 of 16

Create a center parting, then take a 1½-inch section around the hairline from ear to ear and clip that hair out of the way.
- 3Step 3 of 16

Apply Formula A to the back section using a bottle applicator and working in ⅛-inch partings to create a shadow root effect. After applying Formula A, use your fingers to drag the color down 1 to 1½ inches from the root. Continue this technique throughout the entire back section.
- 4Step 4 of 16

- 5Step 5 of 16

After the shadow root is complete, move to the back nape area. Take a diagonal slice and apply Formula B from the shadow root to ends, then secure in a foil.
- 6Step 6 of 16

Continue working in varying diagonal partings around the head for a marbling effect—the overlapping sections will create a more natural-looking, seamless blend. Plus, it will be easier to tailor the color application to your client’s head shape and texture.
- 7Step 7 of 16

Then, release the hairline section and continue with the same application technique but switch to applying Formula C.
- 8Step 8 of 16

Weave fine slices to focus the lightest pieces around the face frame. This will create an extra pop of brightness for maximum impact.
- 9Step 9 of 16

Repeat this process on the opposite side.
- 10Step 10 of 16

Allow everything to process, moving on to apply lowlights for added dimension.
- 11Step 11 of 16

Starting in the back behind the hairline section, take diagonal slices and apply Formula C. The diagonal pattern will create a more natural blend.
- 12Step 12 of 16

Continue this pattern working upward behind the face-framing section.
- 13Step 13 of 16

Allow everything to process for 30 minutes, then rinse.
- 14Step 14 of 16

Wash thoroughly with Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Shampoo and Conditioner to prolong the color's vibrancy and longevity while deeply conditioning the hair.
