No matter how many years you’ve spent behind the chair, something still feels suspicious about “healthy” and “bleach” being used in the same sentence. But Paul Mitchell® Color National Educator Kristy Varga (@kristyvargahair) is here to show you her go-to technique for achieving healthy platinum blondes.

- 1Step 1 of 13

Kristy's client is a starting Level 7.
- 2Step 2 of 13

Section the hair into quadrants.
- 3Step 3 of 13

Start your application with Formula A in the back two sections, taking 1/8" horizontal sections from the nape to the crown. Apply about 1/2" to 1" from both the scalp and more porous ends.
Pro tip: Starting your application in the back of the head allows for a quick rinse-out if the lightener processes more quickly than anticipated.
- 4Step 4 of 13

Place a mesh strip at the scalp between each section to keep the lightener off the skin and face.
Pro tip: Make sure to work in the lightener with your fingers for each section. A little more saturation never hurts!
- 5Step 5 of 13

Allow all four sections to process about 50 to 75 percent of the desired lift.
- 6Step 6 of 13

Apply Formula B to the scalp and ends, removing the mesh strips as you go. Kristy recommends starting in the back where the lightener has had the most processing time.
- 7Step 7 of 13

Process to the desired Level.
- 8Step 8 of 13
Rinse with cool water, cleanse with Paul Mitchell® Color Protect® Post Color Shampoo then towel-dry.
- 9Step 9 of 13

Apply Formula C globally and process for about 20 minutes.
- 10Step 10 of 13
Rinse, then cleanse again with Color Protect® Post Color Shampoo.
- 11Step 11 of 13
Towel-dry, then apply Paul Mitchell® Bond Rx Step 2 Professional Bond-Building Sealant. Allow to process for five to 15 minutes.
- 12Step 12 of 13
Rinse, then blow-dry to activate Bond Rx technology.
- 13Step 13 of 13
