Section the hair into three parts—two in the front and one large section in the back.

Take a diagonal section from behind the right ear. Finely weave the section and apply Formula A.

Pro Tip: Hold the foil against the head and use the surface to paint to get the lightener as close to the scalp as possible without the foil sliding. Take a second diagonal weaved parting and apply Formula A.

Move to the opposite side and repeat the process. To prevent the lightener from bleeding, direct the flap outwards when folding foils.

Move to the center back. Take a horizontal section, finely weave and apply Formula A. Then take a second horizontal weave parting directly above and apply Formula A. On the third parting, take a weave and apply Formula B.

Return to the right section. Take a diagonal weave parting and apply Formula B. Repeat on the opposite side.

Return to the center back. Take another horizontal weave parting and apply Formula B. Keep that pattern going until you’ve reached the top of that section.

Pro Tip: Marissa always considers cowlicks when she’s foiling hair. Instead of pulling the hair tight against the foil, she holds the hair a little looser to make sure the result is natural-looking.

When the back is complete, move to the front hairline. Take a diagonal slice of hair against the hairline, finely weave and apply Formula B.

Continue with diagonal weaved partings for four foils up towards the center part using Formula A.

Pro Tip: Marissa uses 10-volume around the face because the hair is finer.

Repeat on the opposite side of the face.

Do the same finely weaved partings at the center hairline. On the second foil, use Formula B.

From here, move side to side taking diagonal sections using Formula C at the scalp and Formula B on the mids and ends.

Move to the back of the head again. Pick up the ends left out of the foils and apply Formula B with a foilayage technique. Work around to the front in the same manner.

Pro Tip: Don’t choose ends at random—target the ones that look the warmest.

Process for 60 minutes or until desired level of lightness is achieved. Rinse thoroughly, then shampoo with Joico Blonde Life Brightening Shampoo.

 Apply Formula D and process for 5 to 35 minutes or until you achieve the desired tone. Rinse, then shampoo and condition with Blonde Life Brightening Shampoo and Blonde Life Brightening Masque for extra blonde brilliance.
