The ‘dos at NYC Fashion Week always provide plenty of inspiration and ideas for your own work in the salon.  Here are three extraordinary looks straight from the runway for you to recreate – or re-imagine: Orlando Pita’s “updated updo” for Carolina Herrera, Odile’s 40s “rockabilly chignon” for Catherine Malandrino, and Eugene Souleiman’s “romantic, androgynous knot” for Preen. If your clients are gearing up for a wedding or just for a night out on the town, you’ll be able to give them a look that is au courant- and certainly unique. Dry hair using the T3 Bespoke Evolution and T3 360 Plump to thicken hair so pins will stay in place.

Start by parting hair and creating a crown of hair pins 1-inch above the perimeter of the hairline.

Beginning on one side at the front of the head, take a small piece of hair and start twisting inward, grab half-inch sections and incorporate the twisted hair you already have until you reach the middle of the nape of the neck. Proceed to do the same on the other side.

At the back, crisscross the remaining hair and tuck it into the twist to hide ends. Secure with hair pins.

Finish with T3 360 Control hairspray for hold and shine.

  4. 4Step 4 of 14

To contrast the feminine, sophisticated clothes and to satisfy Carolina’s penchant for a classic updo, Orlando created a well-groomed, boyish updo.

Separate top triangle of hair into two sections, top and bottom. Blow dry each half straight and spray with Volumizing Tonic.

Release both sections of hair and comb together with a fine tooth comb first, then a wide tooth comb (comb lines should be visible), adding more Volumizing Tonic to roots, to create a raked back effect.

Slightly loosen shape with fingers to diminish comb marks and separate with hair pins. Dry with a diffuser.

Pull all hair back, twist and tie into a low-slung knot a bit off center. Pull knot to tighten and finish the look with a light misting of Air Control Hair Spray.

The look is androgynous with a hint of romance. The front is quite masculine, sides are scuplted with a raked-back effect and the remainder of the hair is tied into a loose, low-slung knot at the nape of the neck.
  11. 11Step 11 of 14

Make a tight ponytail high on the top of the head.

Twist the ponytail tightly into a coil.

Wrap coiled ponytail first towards the forehead and then to the back, securing with pins into a bun, sitting high on the head.

Take a Wella highlighted extension, coil, and secure on top of the twisted and already secured ponytail to add height and dimension to the bun.

This look elaborates the '40s/'50s era with a "rockabilly" flair created by adding volume to the top of the head in a modern chignon.
