As a salon owner and colorist, BTC Member Maria Polanco of Nolan Vincent Salon & Spa in Southwest Ranches, FL is always looking for ways to improve methods while saving on inventory expenses. In an attempt to lower the cost of Balayage, Ombré and Sombré services, she decided to replace clear color with conditioner. FYI—Most stylists use clear color during Balayage application to make the transition between the natural haircolor and the Balayage appear smoother. “To my delight, it was perfect and cost effective,” says Maria. Check out her formulas and step-by-steps! Helpful Tips to Keep in Mind:
Do not cut the hair before Balayage. This keeps it more natural-looking.

Choose the right peroxide to avoid too much warmth.

When performing Balayage or highlights, always work with the client’s part (side, center, off-center) to ensure seamless, harmonious color.

Treat and highlight the hair simultaneously. Apply your lightener at regrowth, and treat the ends or mid-lengths with your favorite hair mask.
