When your grown-out blonde client asks for a fresh change, offer them a rich brunette blend (queue the subtle contrast). We're tapping Redken Advocate and O&M Pro Artist Tia Lambourn (@tialambourn_hair) for her velvety brunette formulas and reverse balayage process—get the deets below!

The Formulas

Formula A (lightener):
O&M Pro Super Blonde 9™ Powder Lightener + 20-volume developer
Formula B (root shadow):
O&M Pro COR.color™ + 5.13 + 5.0 + developer
Formula C (darkest lowlight):
COR.color™ 5.71 + 5.0 + developer
Formula D (lightest lowlight):
COR.color™ 10.16 + 10.0 + developer
Formula E (face frame):
COR.color™ + 10.0 + 10.13 + 9.13 + developer

Steps

Before: Tia’s client came in with previous grown-out blonde and was ready for a change

1. Strategically lighten the hair with Formula A, especially around face frame, to create pops of brightness.

2. Process to your desired lift and rinse.

3. Apply Formula B as a root shadow.

4. Alternate Formula C and Formula D to create dimensional depth throughout the mids and ends. Leave out the face frame.

5. Apply Formula E to the face frame. Pro Tip: This was a freehand reverse balayage so saturation on your sections is important. Also, have a towel on hand to wipe your hands to avoid unwanted color transfer!” Tia recommends.

6. Process for the recommended time and rinse.

7. To prep for the blow-dry, Tia loves to apply Redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate Leave-In, followed by Oribe Volumizing Mousse and Kenra Professional Platinum Silkening Mist.

8. Finished look:
