Fall hair trend alert: This mushroom bronde blend is a cool, neutral shade that delivers soft contrast and a seamless transition. The key to this look is balancing depth with a lighter face frame for a natural, diffused finish. Below, Canadian color expert and educator Taya Tkachuk (@taya.hair) shares her placement strategy and formulas for achieving a lived-in bronde blend.
Are there any mistakes to avoid for a blended mushroom bronde?
“Overfoiling,” Taya shares. “Less is more when it comes to this effortless bronde look.”
What are your tips for achieving a seamless blend?
“Teasylights! Creating natural blend with a tease, making sure to softly blend upward while leaving natural depth at the root,” Taya shares. Save her top tips for blend below:
- Starting at the crown, Taya works off the partline with diagonal-back weaved teasylights. She maintains depth by keeping dropout sections substantial in the crown area.
- Pro Tip: Foil higher toward the part line, lower in the interior for soft contrast.
- After every two foils, tip out the dropout sections to match the foils’ lifting speed.
- Leave a touch of natural root in the teasylight foils for a seamless transition.
The Formulas
- Formula A (lightener):
- Wella Professionals Blondor Powder Lightener + 10-volume developer
- Formula B (root melt):
- Redken Shades EQ 6N + 6GI + Redken Shades EQ Processing Solution
- Formula C (all-over gloss):
- Shades EQ 9G + 9GI + 9AA + Shades EQ Processing Solution
Steps
1. Before:

2. Highlight the head using Formula A. Taya starts at the crown, diagonal-back teased weaves while keeping dropouts substantial to preserve depth. “I make sure to leave a little bit of natural root in my teasylights,” Taya shares.

Pro Tip: Every two foils, tip-out the dropout hair and tuck into foils so teasylights and tip-outs lift evenly.

3. At the face frame, highlight fewer pieces: “I’m painting very minimal strands, and my dropout sections become a little bit finer, but they still are on the thicker side,” Taya explains. “Less is more when it comes to a bronde.”
4. Wash and begin toning. Apply root melt using Formula B and gloss all-over with Formula C for that muted, cool-neutral bronde.

5. Wash and style as desired.
6. Finished look:
