Hair painting magician Ashlee Allen (@aaashleee), owner of ASH Studio in Ferndale, Mich., is back at it again with a dreamy, pink dimensional balayage that might make your 2 p.m. client think twice about going dark brunette for the winter.
“We have been working toward a mauve color on this client for a while,” says Ashlee. “She was very dark a few months ago when I first started seeing her, and during the process of lightening she has been blue, violet and wild orchid.”

- Oligo Professionnel Extra Blonde Blacklight + Cool Toned Blonde Blacklight + Wella Professionals BLONDOR Freelights + b3 Brazilian Bond Builder + 30-volume developer
- Formula C
- PRAVANA ChromaSilk VIVIDS Precious Metals Rose Gold + a touch of ChromaSilk VIVIDS Pink + a small dot of ChromaSilk VIVIDS Black + Amethyst
Steps
1. Apply Formula A to the base.
2. Balayage using Formula B, sweeping the color up into the base.
3. Process for 30 minutes, then shampoo with Celeb Luxury Viral Color Wash Shampoo, Pastel Light Pink to pre-tone before applying the direct dye. Dry completely.
4. Apply Formula C, and process for 30 minutes. Rinse and condition.
5. Apply Design.ME Powerdry.ME, and blow-dry, then curl with a 1¼-inch iron, rotating directions. Finish with Kenra Professional Shaping Spray 21.
