When the canvas is right, you can still achieve dramatic brightness without using ammonia (a total win!). So, when we spotted this transformation, from virgin Level 6 to a bright face-framing bronde using ingredient-friendly products, we had to share all of the deets from Blonding and Extensions Specialist Becca Ortiz (@balaybecca). The Formulas
- Formula A (foils)Schwarzkopf Professional ESSENSITY® Ammonia-Free Lightener + 18-volume developer (1:2) Formula B (root tap)Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA VIBRANCE® 6-0 + 6-volume IGORA VIBRANCE® Activator Gel Formula C (color melt)
- equal parts IGORA VIBRANCE® 9-1 + 8-46 + 6-volume IGORA VIBRANCE® Activator Gel
Steps
1. Before
2. Starting at the backbar, choose lightening tools based on your client’s canvas and desired results. Because Becca’s client had a virgin, Level 6 canvas she chose Schwarzkopf Professional ESSENSITY® Ammonia-Free Lightener.
Here’s Why: ESSENSITY® Ammonia-Free Lightener lifts up to 7 levels, so it’s great for a virgin canvas because it will still achieve light results without having to use an aggressive lightener.
3. Section out two side panels, the crown and bottom nape area.
4. Braid the occipital area out of the way—skip the lightener on this section to create darkness that allow the blonde pieces to pop. This will help achieve maximum dimension.
5. Work in thin, diagonal-back sections and apply Formula A on both side panels and the nape section.
6. In the crown section, work in zigzag sections and continue to apply Formula A for a softer effect.
7. Process until you achieve desired lift, then rinse.
8. Root tap with Formula B, then color melt into Formula C for a seamless blend. Process, rinse and wash.
