Offering the perfect mix of bright and dimensional, this seamless vanilla blonde was crafted by Redken Advocate and epres™ Ambassador Charlotte Rowley (@charlotterowleyhair). Learn how Charlotte strategically places highlights for brightness, tones for a seamless finish and keeps the hair healthy every step of the way.

The Formulas

Formula A (lightener, highlights):
Wella Professionals BlondorPlex Lightening Powder mixed with Freelights Clay Lightener + 6% Developer
Formula B (lightener, tip-outs):
Blondor Lightening Powder mixed with Freelights Clay Lightener + 9% Developer
Formula C (face-frame roots toner):
Redken Shades EQ 8N + 9VG + Shades EQ Processing Solution
Formula D (root melt):
Shades EQ 8GI + 7AG + Shades EQ Processing Solution
Formula E (gloss):
Shades EQ 10VG + 10NW + 10AA + Shades EQ Processing Solution

Steps

1. Applying Formula A, begin to highlight the hair using a horizontal placement near the hairline, pivoting to a diagonal back as your work toward the back of the head. “This creates brightness near the face,“ Charlotte explains. “I used all slices to cover more ground—the finer the better for great lift.”

  • “The lightener I used was Wella Professionals BlondorPlex Lightening Powder mixed with Blondor Freelights Clay Lightener, using 6% on the weaves and 9% tip-outs,” Charlotte shares. Why mix the two lighteners? “The clay will stop any movement/swelling and it makes the lightener much easier to apply.”

2. Use Formula B to hand-paint any tip-outs where extra brightness is desired. “I always use epres Bond Repair Treatment in every bowl of lightener and my gloss,” Charlotte shares. “It protects the hair from damage caused by the lightening process. By using it in my gloss, it ensures that every hair on their head has had this incredible treatment!”

  • Hair Health Pro Tip: “The epres™ At-Home Treatment is a go-to for all my clients to ensure their hair stays in top condition between appointments.”

3. Process and rinse.

4. Begin toning. Apply Formula C to the hairline/face-frame, Formula D as a root melt and Formula E as a mids-to-ends gloss. “A root melt should enhance, not cover bad work,” Charlotte notes.

5. Rinse and style as desired. This blowout was powered by KEVIN.MURPHY styling products.
