Who is the ideal candidate for this technique?

"This technique isn’t exclusive to only curly hair, but it works really well for someone who wants to see pops of contrasted color when curly, while also wanting to experience a blended color melt if they choose to wear that hair straight," says Sabrina. Press play below to see this blend on a straight finish.

What in-salon and at-home maintenance is required for this look?

Since her desired result was red and copper, Sabrina only lifted her client to a Level 8 and utilized the natural warmth so her color would last longer. Her client will need her next touch-up in about 12 weeks.

At home, Sabrina recommends using Olaplex Bond Maintenance Shampoo and Conditioner as well as weekly Olaplex No.3 treatments, followed by Olaplex No.6 and 7 after every wash. Sabrina's client must also use a heat-protectant when using a hot iron, such as IGK Hair Good Behavior 4-in-1 Prep Spray.

Price Breakdown:

The Formulas

Formula A (base)
Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA ROYAL 5-7 + 4-88 + 5-88 + 30-volume developer
Formula B (clay lightener)
Schwarzkopf Professional BLONDEME Bond Enforcing Premium Clay Lightener + 40-volume developer + Olaplex No. 1
Formula C (gloss)
Schwarzkopf Professional IGORA VIBRANCE 7-77 + 9-55 + 6-volume developer

Steps

1. Apply Formula A to the base.

2. Apply Formula B using Hand Touch Balayage in Framar foils.

Pro Tip: Even though it’s balayage, using foils helps avoid the clay lightener drying out on curly hair that already lacks moisture.
